WEC: Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver
I'm not going to call this one, but I see nothing that would make me believe Jens has a chance.
I would love if Jens won, that would truly impress me, but I haven't seen Jens in recent times perform any where near a level that could take on a Urijah Faber.
For Jens to win he'd have to keep it standing and stuff the take downs. Hope for a knock out. Urijah on the ground is too tricky for Jens.
However, to Jens credit, Urijah hasn't really fought anyone like Jens, so who knows. Jens outed Cub Swanson rather easily last time he fought and I thought Cub wasn't a bad striker or ground fighter. I guess years in shootboxing and MMA count for something.

Re: WEC: Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver
Awesome to have you back shift, after the last forum got bombarded with porn, I decided to revamp it and get it started again. Its time to get the collective active!
Well as far the Jens vs Faber fight, Im with you. I really doubt Jens has a chance in there with Faber. I really dont like Faber, his California boy personality and cockiness pisses me off, but the kid delivers when he is in the cage. Jens will have to keep him standing, but even standing Faber isn't exactly a slouch. I see Faber as just to well rounded for Pulver to get anything going. However, Pulver does have knock out power in his hands and we haven't really seen Faber's chin be tested by somebody with Pulver's power.
Pulver's move down to 145 has been fairly recent so we still haven't seen exactly how devastating his run will be. But he did well with Cub recently so we can't count Jens out against Faber. He is a former UFC Lightweight Champion and has fought some top contenders so I think he has the experience to put on an exciting fight and can deliver a upset. We will have to wait though and see.

Re: WEC: Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver
Thanks for the welcome back KC
I've been checking intermittently to see when this forum would be back up. I gave up on it after a while but the recent CMAC sanshou tournament got my appetite open for some good old Sanshou and MMA discussion again.
I've joined so many forums since. I must say it's rather difficult to find practitioners as intellectual and as informed as you guys. All I encounter are profanity cursing ninjitsu wannabees who think that MMA sucks and the 5 finger death touch and hadooken is the key to winning a fight.
I hope more people participate in this forum

Re: WEC: Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver
My hats off to both fighters.
They both were tested and proved them selves worthy. They both showed respect.
Jens has definitely lost some of the fire he used to have. Could be age...I think it's less of an age issue, He's probably weathered mentally or physically. I commend him though for finally giving Urijah a good test. Taking him all the way to round 5. His take down defense was very good and he reduced a lot of damage with that tight guard. His punches just weren't coming off though.
Urijah did an excellent job standing up. Showed true heart of a Champion.

Re: WEC: Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver
It was a good fight, WEC more than made up for the EliteXC debalce on Saturday night. Indeed, I respect both fighters for putting on quite a show. I believe Pulver's best days are behind him, although his takedown defense was solid, his hand speed has slowed considerably. He was just never able to get a good offense going against the quick and elusive Faber. However, this is also due tot he fact that Faber has improved immensely in his stand up game. He was pretty much always ahead of Pulver in each exchange.
However, that being said, I still feel Faber would absolutely get wrecked by Kid Yamamoto. Although, this fight may never actually materialize, I still believe he is the toughest guy at 145 lbs. He has K-1 level striking proven by his knockdown of K-1 golden boy Masato, in what was a stellar show of his stiking prowess against one of kickboxings current greats. Also, Kid's wrestling is at an Olympic level. However, with that said Faber is hands down the best at 145 lbs. in the US. Although, a rematch with Tyson Griffin is in order.

Re: WEC: Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver
honestly Jens better years are behind him, but I still don't think that's why his hand speed was slow...When I saw his training I seriously was concerned when I saw the tail end of his training. I think he may have been suffering from over training. Pushing and pulling tires is fine, but that should be done in the middle of your work out regime. Meaning if you have 6 weeks of training you should incorporate tire pushing in weeks 3-4 and work more on speed and strategy that last week.
I agree I want to see Faber against Clay Guida or Kid Yamamato
I don't want to see a rematch of Tyson Griffin to be honest.
